Thinking about publishing your research?
Then think about BIOS!
BIOS, the quarterly journal of Beta Beta Beta Biological Society, has been published continuously since 1930. It has a three-fold purpose: to publish matters that pertain to the affairs of the Society, to publish articles by members, and to publish articles that will be of general interest to biologists. Many distinguished biologists have contributed manuscripts for publication in BIOS, written especially with the undergraduate reader in mind. Subjects covered include articles on current research, developments in biology, biology as a profession, as well as graduate and professional training for biologists. Special emphasis is placed on the publication of undergraduate research papers.
BIOS is published four times a year: March, May, September, and December. Manuscripts of two types are considered for publication. Student authored undergraduate research articles in biology are reviewed by college and university faculty or researchers. Faculty authored review articles and historic articles of interest to biologist are also published. Membership in ßßß is not required for publication in BIOS.
Submissions and/or questions should be addressed to the Editor:

BIOS Instructions to Authors
Manuscript Style: Manuscripts should be word-processed using Microsoft Word 97 or more recent. Use the following order: Title; Author(s), research advisors, and affiliations; Abstract (no more than 250 words); Introduction; Materials and Methods; Results; Discussion; Acknowledgements (if any); Literature Cited; Tables; Figure Captions; Figures. Metric units should be used unless impractical.
The text should be in Standard English and standard scientific nomenclature. New terms, abbreviations and symbols must be defined at their first occurrence. Footnotes are not used. All tables and figures must be referred to in the text. The Harvard system of text citation should be used with the general style (Author, Year; Author1 and Author 2, Year; Author1 et al., Year). All published materials cited in the text must be fully documented in the Literature Cited section. The entries are arranged in alphabetical order by author and then chronologically when two or more entries have identical authorship. Use the form:
Watson, J.D. and F.H.C. Crick. 1953. Molecular structure of nucleic acids: A structure for deoxyribonucleic acid. Nature 171:737-738.
Tables and Figures must be submitted in camera-ready form; that is, they must be of quality suitable for direct reproduction by the printer. All figures must be in black-and-white format. Color photographs may be acceptable, but will be reproduced in black and white. Original illustration manuscripts or high quality black and white, glossy photographic copies with good contrast are best. All lettering must be of professional quality. It is recommended that figures be prepared larger than their intended size; reduction by the printer will then enhance sharpness. Lettering must be sized so that it will be readable when reduced. Tables and Figures are numbered sequentially with Arabic numerals and cited in the text at least once. Figure captions should be included on a separate page.
Manuscript Correspondence: Authors should submit an original and one copy of their manuscript to the editor. The manuscript should also be submitted electronically, or include a disk with the hard copy. A cover letter should be included that states the work is original and has not been submitted to any other journal for publication. Additional data will be requested by the editor upon receipt of a manuscript. There are no page charges for publishing in BIOS.
